Re: Type based book cover design


Typography based covers are particularly interesting.  Having seen Chip Kidd’s presentation at MICA last fall, I referenced his work to speak on this topic.  I thought it interesting, that the Kidd himself used text as the focus of his most recent book cover design:

 


The audience being young he chose to go with strong primary colors as well.  Sidebar – the fact that the word “Go” is within the stop sign symbol, does that make this a conceptual design?

The graph paper like background and warped text suggest energy which ties nicely to the "more adventures in engineering" subtitle above.

Type based design requires a great deal of creativity to come up with a unique and interesting piece.  When done well, it truly is clever.
